#225 Relicense as MPL-2?
Opened by tjaalton. Modified

Well, this is maybe asking a bit too much, but doesn't hurt..

bind-dyndb-ldap is essentially getting kicked out of Debian (and maybe Ubuntu too) because bind9 upstream does not provide a stable ABI meaning that the b-d-l needs at least a rebuild after every bind9 version update, and moderate to extensive patching at worst.

I've proposed to merge the packaging together so that at least the rebuild requirement would be gone, but it'd still require patching every time there is a break in the ABI.

So the only (?) way to get rid of both issues would be to get b-d-l merged upstream, but the blocker there is the fact that b-d-l is GPLv3 whereas bind9 is MPL-2, and AIUI (as mentioned by upstream*) they can't be mixed at that level.

Would it be possible to relicense b-d-l as MPL-2 so it could be merged upstream?

Was this too over-the-top kind of a request? :)

We are checking with the legal team on what we can do here. It may take quite some time (already took some).
