If either the SASL bind, or simple bind with password fails, we should fail over and at least try simple bind instead.
I found that this feature was implemented by commit a25961f2df0feccfe96309c9aca1de642f8063a0.
Subsequently we received complains about this feature (see Red Hat bug 742368), so it was dropped by commit 31ac3da8d2341d9e43f5928eefa5cd1dd38b1272.
First release without this functionality is 1.0.0rc1.
