#224 Fedora Cloud Logo!
Closed: Fixed Opened by rbergero.

I have noticed that many groups have a logo specialized for their subproject, team, SIG, etc; I would like to request a logo for the Cloud SIG.

There is an obvious element that we could incorporate into the logo, of course. :)

I'd like to just mention that in addition to using this on the wiki I'd like to have this available as something to have on printed collateral for flyers, etc. at conferences, so if you have any creative ideas about that (even if it's "one small logo" for wiki, one larger or slightly different logo for collateral) I am all ears. :)

We also plan to add a new cloud tab on the http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora-options page.
That would be great to have a picture to add.

Hi, I'm not sure if you're looking for something like the official group logo [https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/attachment/ticket/224/1.png 1] or a symbol like [https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/attachment/ticket/224/2.png 2]-[https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/attachment/ticket/224/3.png 3]-[https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/attachment/ticket/224/4.png 4], so I've made a few different versions...

Hi Sam, these are fantastic! I am thinking maybe a combo of 2 and 1 - 1 to tie it in with the other Fedora team logos but 2 to give it a nice logomark like the super-slick cloud design you came up with. Maybe try Fedora blue (#3c6eb4) and the Fedora font (Comofortaa) as well? I'm going to attach some mockups I did to combine the two - feel free to play with them or disregard as you like. I'll attach both the PNG and SVG versions so you can modify from the SVG source.

One thing to consider when working up this logo, Sam, is that they might be used as a website banner, but they might be used in small applications too so at small sizes the Fedora 'f' and the 'Cloud' text should be readable. This is why I think A, E, F, and H are particularly weak in the mockups I posted. What do you think?

Okay, so, my thoughts:

I think having the "official" logo is probably useful to have, particularly if there are applications where we don't have space to incorporate more than that.

I like the way the logo mark got worked in in mo's revisions into the corner in C, D, and E. I wonder if we might be able to put it in the lower right-hand corner, and maybe take the cool cloud graphic and compress it downwards slightly, and make the first bubble of the cloud curl around the edge of the infinity logo? I'm not sure if that would take too much away from there, but it might work well. Anyway, and then maybe incorporate the word "cloud" on the inside next to the logomark, similar to Mo's H example?

I think one interesting thing to think about is also the distinction with the white version vs. blue, or white surrounded by blue - I'm not sure if I'm a fan of having the large amount of blue space surrounding the cloud, but it's obviously something we'd need to figure out for applications on white backgrounds. Maybe just having a thin edge of blue around a white cloud would work, with the logomark and word "Cloud" (as described above) would work for that specific case?

Anyway -- I really like where this is going, I like having the distinct cloud shape that isn't, you know, shaped like every other cloud. Nice work!

You've posted just a few seconds before I've uploaded the two files, so don't pay much attention to them. I think the problem is the text, because when the image is resized to low res versions readability may be lost. What about two different versions, one including word "cloud" and the other just with the cloud and the bubble? Anyway, I'll keep on working, suggestions are welcome!

Hi Sam and Máirín — thanks for working on this!

I agree that it's nice to have a cloud shape that's different from every other cloud image everywhere. I wonder if this can be made to look a little less like ''toes'', though?

Stepping back a bit from this suggested design, the stereotypical cloud image is a cumulus cloud. What if we went for something more wispy, like a cirrus?

So, here's another idea — what if the Fedora logo is the cloud? [[Image(rainy.png)]]

This just a really quick throw-together of what that might look like. Details of the drops could be refined.

Yeah, no. Just trying something. :)

Okay that's enough for now. Thoughts? Improvements?

Here's how this looks at small sizes.

I think the 48-pixel-wide version looks great, and the 32-wide one is fine. At 16, the drops are still distinct but you have to know what it means before it's useful.

However, I don't think looking perfect at tiny sizes is the most important here. This isn't a single application or product and I don't think we're looking to use it as a web siteicon. As Robyn mentions above, making the Wiki look more inviting is the key use, along with promotional material and flyers at conferences -- in fact, poster-size and larger is probably more important.

Here's how it looks with words. I realize I'm straying from the brand guidelines here; this isn't meant to be used like this without further refinement and officialization. [[Image(sparkledrops-withwords.png)]]

As you can probably tell, I'm getting attached to the "Fedora ''is'' the cloud" logo concept. Someone should tell me if I'm way off base. :)

I'm also very open to improvements or other implementations of the idea.

like the idea of making the fedora logo the cloud, how about this

Nice. For better or for worse, there's less of the little mascot critter in the new one. :)

Okay, so, how do we go about making this, like, official?

Okay, so: in fact, I am declaring this official.

Thanks everyone!
