#319 FUDCon 2014 Beijing T-shirt Design Request
Closed: Fixed Opened by cicku.

Hi Design team,

We are preparing FUDCon 2014 Beijing[1], we need some materials for the showing/marketing. T-shirt is a good swag for ambassadors and attendees, I hope people from design team can help us.

We need 2 kinds of t-shirts, one is for ambassadors/volunteers, and the other one is specialized for speakers.

I hope you can come up with more than 1 proposals.

Thanks.

I shall give this a shot. We will need a logo too which should be done first IMO.

hi, we hava already voted for FUDcon BEIJING logo design and the logo finally be like this 1.

Now we need you help to finish the design work of T-shirt. We need 2 kinds of t-shirts, one is for ambassadors/volunteers, and the other one is specialized for speakers. The difference between them can be color , image or something else easy to distinguish. The logo can be used of part of T-shirt design.

Thanks very much.

Hi,

We need at least 15 days to produce the T-shirt, and we must come up with the final design tomorrow to be able to produce together with GNOME!

As for the two types, in my mind one is for volunteers/organizers (working staff), and the other speakers/attendees (participants). But we can discuss the details later, and it should not interference with the design.

PS: seems like the trac ticket messages go to a separate list (design-team-tickets). Not sure if we need to send the reminder to design-team list too?

Refer to [1] and [2] for my submissions. I can help in modifying the designs which I have done as per the specific requests of organizers. I am not in favor of using current logo [3] on the t-shirt. It needs clean up and precisely because of that I made separate vector for Temple of Heaven and eventually a separate logo [4]. If you still insist, I will refresh the designs with the logo of your choice.

As for separate t-shirts for volunteers, I propose using a different colur t-shirt with same design.

Hi suchakra,

Thanks for your help. I have similar feeling that the current logo is not ready for t-shirt printing. You three t-shirt designs are all good candidates, but I have some input to make it better IMHO.

The warriors might confuse us with Xi'an.

[3] http://suchakra.fedorapeople.org/fudcon-designs/Beijing/fudcon-beijing-tee-3.png

Not sure what the tiles indicate. The Great Wall or 北 as in Beijing?
Besides, I am not so favor of symbol 'kai', since it is not so expressive here. The word 开源 (open source) might be better, but still not that good to me.

It is my personal choice so far, but since we decide on another logo, it seems unwise :(

I would like to make the meaning more straightforwardly shown. Can we have a sentence like 'I volunteer for FUDCon Beijing!', or 'I participate in FUDCon Beijing!' somewhere? I am OK with using color to differentiate two types of T-shirt, but one explicit line can make it less likely to confuse two, and bring more memorial meaning.

Note I omitted one number intentionally in last post. That's because we have another T-shirt design:

All in all, we now have four T-shirt designs and we need to choose one (or two) as final candidate which will be refined to be the final design. I don't think we have much time to have a round of range voting open to all, and I think it is fair for the organizing team to make the decision. By the team I mean at least members including cicku (event owner), me (alick, main coordinator), zsun (main coordinator), diseng (design coordinator), tonghui (GNOME coordinator) should agree on the decision. Let's do it quickly.

More about my design suggestion: since we already have the text 'fudcon beijing' at front, can we add 'I volunteer for' or 'I participate in' text snippets above it? The design on the back of the T-shirt can be minimal, no need to mention beijing again. Some general stuff about Fedora can be good, such as infinity logo, four foundations, etc. If you want to add something more Chinese specific, calligraphic "Beijing 2014" might do good.

My reply is inline.

Yes, I am also not in favor of this design anymore.

the tiles are just the Chinese Design pattern taken from here : https://openclipart.org/detail/48307/sayagata-inverted-by-pitr

I wanted to keep the design somewhat minimalistic - hence I used that pattern. Ok we can remove the 'kai' symbol. I am not an expert but I think people from outside China would surely love some relevant Chinese symbol to go along with their tees! Bring on the suggestions! :)

I don't thing we need to be too democratic and vote on each and everything. The organizers should have a final say. But thats my own opinion. Rest is all upto you guys.

I think it would be good to not have too much declarative text on the t-shirt. The idea is to let people have a t-shirt which they can use at other events also and show off their involvement in Beijing FUDCon - it should neither be too generic, nor too specific. We can surely have a space where people can write their names and which can distinguish themselves from other speakers/attendees/volunteers. For example this : http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7261/7074285227_34d27519bb.jpg This way, it will be beneficial during the event and people can take the sticker off after the event is over. This may also help in just having one t-shirt design and reduce print overheads. Of course we can customize the "Hello my name is.." sticker to whatever we want and make it more Fedora/FUDCon specific

Ok, I shall do something on these lines tonight and post more variations in design

Here are a couple of more variations. If you decide upon one of the designs as a base design, I can make more variations/refine that design as per your requirements. We need to wrap this up in a couple of days.

Hi suchakra,

I think tee-5 is quite good, only the text 2014 is somewhat too large and not consistent with calligraphic Beijing. How about replacing 2014 with Chinese characters 甲午 [1] which stands for the same year. Besides, 甲 means 'first', and 午 means it is the Year of Horse. Thanks.

Ok, here is the update : http://suchakra.fedorapeople.org/fudcon-designs/Beijing/fudcon-beijing-tee-7.png

I like the idea of 甲午 as it has multiple meanings in same word - all relevant to FUDCon (its the first FUDCon in Beijing in the year of horse!) I hope the 甲午 characters have come out properly. I have also removed the text from the front graphic as I think it will not come out well if printed with a single color screen on t-shirt. If you have any more ideas about front side graphic do tell me.

Hi suchakra,

we have made decision to use tee-7 as final T-shirt. But as we are not sure whether the manufacturer allows to choose T-shirt color, so can you please make a white and a black version for the tee-7. Thanks.

Ok, will do it ASAP.

I have attached all the variations of the design number 7 that you had chosen. Make sure to inform the printer that the orientation of the Fedora logo on the sleeve is proper (top-down) for all designs and aligned midway between front and back. I have shown it inclined in the SVGs just for indication. I have mentioned in the black & white SVGs as well.

We have decided to use dark blue background and black background ones for printing. Thanks for your great work!
