Note:
Pagure is the generic name (in French) for animal of the ''Pagurus'' family which includes the well known ''Pagurus bernhardus'' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagurus_bernhardus I thought maybe a stylized drawing of it could be an idea for the logo.

Pretty cool but it looks a little bit 'skelety' ?

For the shell I had more something along the line of http://thumb101.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/259384/122041447/stock-vector-vector-shell-silhouette-122041447.jpg but we can try different things (if you want/like) as I could be convinced for better ideas :)

Sorry but not really sure what you mean? Are they not all seashells? Could you be a little more specific.

I was thinking this model of shell together with the animal (that looks like some kind of crabs).

Okay thanks for clarifying. I like this idea but I'm struggling with it a bit.

Yeah this is much closer to what I had in mind.

I was also having a whole bunch of crazy ideas.

If we could turn this small crab into a small character, we could make it move from a shell to another one when someone forks a repo.
We could make it move from a shell to a big '?' for the 404 page or move from a shell to a closed boxes with a lock for the 500 page.
I did say these were crazy ideas :)

To come back on the subject, maybe make the opening of the shell a little bigger. We could also try to rotate also the shell, maybe with its opening at 11 or 12 (if you see it as a clock).
What about antennas with eyes at the top? Personify it a little? (no idea if this is actually a good idea or not he :-))

It is a crazy idea... I like it.

I'll try my best to design something fairly flexible character wise, so that we can put him in various different objects and shell designs without too much work.

Current progress on character design. Just trying to rough out general shape and size.

Crazy idea #36: what about putting a trident/fork as a "tattoo" a little bit like the one we used to marked "forked" project: http://pagure.dev.fedoraproject.org/static/images/forked.png ( http://pagure.dev.fedoraproject.org/fork/pingou/test top left) ?

Hi mciahdenn!

Any progress on the logo design? I think we probably need a logotype (e.g. the text "PAGURE") somewhere and maybe some more refinements to the snail. (I think what I would do is convert the snail to all black and look for where the shape could be cleaned up, eg the upper left part of his shell looks maybe a bit flattened, I'd round it out a little bit.) Or maybe you could try stylizing him more (eg like your initial design in comment 3) and see how it looks? Just push it a bit more. Let us known on the design team if you'd like some more critique / feedback / suggestions.

Made adjustments to the shape that I think are an improvement but will look for more feedback on it.

Also a couple of suggestions on changing the colour palette.

Hey pingou, any thoughts on this?

Micah, can you do a version of the first drawing you did (for an icon) with a smoother looking shell? My idea would be to remove the dots in the shell maybe and use just smooth curves so it looks like a pagurus (see https://www.pinterest.com/pin/282600945340219479/). Maybe elongate the claws on the bottom too. But keep the overall circular icon shape - it works well for a favicon and things like that. What do you think?
