Flock booklets. I believe Ryan has done them in the past? Remy has the info on printers. Can you guys coordinate to get them done again?
yeah, happy to do these up again.
Just a few things that will help me get started:
the rest we can work out (formats, bleeds, etc) after i have a draft set in stone, to give some time to contact the printers. and get this info.
But basically as much info as possible is awesome.
cheers, ryanlerch
Ad from Aleph Objects/Lulzbot Flock_2015_ad_FINAL.pdf
Ad from O'Reilly (includes free ebook coupon for Flock attendees) D0330_flock15_ebook_coupon.pdf
We're waiting on two ads, from Google and Rackspace (and a possible ad from ARM), will keep you advised.
Any word on content / format / deadline for the booklets?
These are needed ASAP so I can get started on these.
Rackspace ad Rackspace_Flock_DeveloperPlus_ad_final_8.5x5.5.pdf
Ryan, I have a git checkout from your work in 2013... do you still have that? Does it make sense to use that as a starting point? I can help generate content for you.
Replying to [comment:7 spot]:
I can't seem to find that repo :(
are you able to zip it up for me and email it?
Also, are we going the same pagesize as the previousbooklet?
Once I have the pagesize I can start laying out the pages -- i can start on the schedule first, as it will take the most time, but the pagesize / layout will change how i lay it out.
Just pinging here because the printers that I had for the Tshirt don't do booklets :/
I can get an estimate from RIT's Print Hub, but I would need to call during business hours tomorrow at the earliest. I believe the Hub will do prints on demand for alum, but in the case they do not, we may need someone "on the inside" (like SJ or Jen Hinton) to utilize the services, assuming the prices are competitive.
I wanted to double-check here and make sure I wasn't missing anything with a previous printer as mentioned originally by Ruth.
Any update on this?
IIRC, the 2013 books were 1/2 of a US Letter page, and i have been doing a bit of the content at that size, but if it is a different size, need to know ASAP, otherwise we will run into more time at the other end cramming the content into a different format.

Here is what I've heard back from the RIT Printers so far:
How many booklets do you reckon we'll need? We're at 178 registrants, so I'd ballpark around 200, but this is my first time, so someone else can likely make a better estimate.
Hope this helps,
--RemyD.
@spot
Are the rackspace + oreilly ads supposed to be full page ones? orhalf page?
Because these are formatted as landscape, but thebooklets are portrait. (Lulzbot one is right)
--ryanlerch
attachment flock-booklet-individual-pages.pdf
Here is what I have so far
https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/attachment/ticket/392/flock-booklet-individual-pages.pdf
I went the 11x17 route in the formatting.
Also, the ads are in there too -- Rackspace and Oreilly are 1/2 page ads becuase of the format provided, and Lulzbot is a fullpage add for the same reason.
i really need more content and feedback to finish this off though...
Here is what I need:
@remi
I'm heading offline now, should be back online at about 0630 BNE time tomorrow morning to finish this off.

Here is what I need: Double check the schedule this is done by hand, so I may have made mistakes. there are also some weird entries (apologies if these are real talks and people) in the sched website: a talk by Anna Conda a talk by Noah Way a talk by Sum Day a talk by Kay Romium a talk entitled Interpretive dance of the alligator with the description "Chomp, chomp mother %$#&^@*." a talk by Mola Ram a talk by Ann Evitable the talk "All you could ever want to know about clouds by Foggy Stratus" the talk "Goat Racing with Capra Aegagrus" the talk "Forty-five minutes of the Harlem Shake by Ima Chocobo"
All of these talks are bogus joke talks. Up to Spot if he wants them in the booklet or not, but the joke can't really pay off if they aren't.
Info about the evening events -- this section is still the Charleston content
Long, so put this last in the reply. Also trying to find out if we can switch an in-hotel event from Saturday to Wednesday, but that's less interesting.
Info for the Local Area Map -- this is still the charleston map -- on this one we had the hotel(s), flock location, and the location of the evening events
Hoping Remy can help better here if we need more, because all I can do is Google Map, and I'm sure Ryan is also capable of that.
Info on the venue map and floor plan -- these are still the charleston map what is the special snack that rackspace is providing -- i have a cookie icon, but it would be good to have something close to what the snack is

Theoretically cupcakes, but I don't know if they finalized that. Tom might.
EVENING EVENTS
THURSDAY, AUGUST 13 THE STRONG | NATIONAL MUSEUM OF PLAY http://www.museumofplay.org/
If you've never had the pleasure, The Strong is a really amazing museum devoted to the history of play and games. Among other things, it houses the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of historical materials related to play and is home to the International Center for the History of Electronic Games, the National Toy Hall of Fame, and the World Video Game Hall of Fame.
We will be holding our evening reception in the Boardwalk Arcade and eGamesRevolutuion areas. You can play Giant Tetris, the only machine of this game in North America; Guitar Hero; LED dodgeball; classic pinball games, including The Incredible Hulk and Hercules; and 4 dozen historic arcade machines, including Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
We'll give everyone a start on tokens, but you can buy all you want (5 tokens for $1, most games are one token, a few are free). Cash/credit vending machines are available in the exhibit.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 14 GEORGE EASTMAN HOUSE | INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILM http://www.eastmanhouse.org/
On Friday, we'll hold a reception in the George Eastman House, originally the estate of George Eastman, founder of Eastman Kodak, with 10.5 acres of working farm and gardens and a 35,000 square-foot Colonial Revival mansion.
Now it is one of the world's oldest film archives and museums dedicated to photography. Its collections include many of Ansel Adams' early works and one of the largest collections of daguerreotypes in the world. The gift shop will be open during our event as well.
There's a meeting room map on the Hyatt's website, but it's not very useful. They're all connected anyway, so I wouldn't worry about that part. Just take it out.
Okies, thanks for the info.
Just finished this off, and generated the PDFs
There are two PDFs.
[[BR]] [[BR]]
This one is already imposed to print out double sided on a 17x11 landscape sheet:
https://github.com/fedoradesign/flock2015booklet/raw/master/flock-booklet-merged-pages.pdf
And this one is one to a page PDF:
https://github.com/fedoradesign/flock2015booklet/raw/master/flock-booklet-individual-pages.pdf
The sources are also available in this git repo: https://github.com/fedoradesign/flock2015booklet
My phone number is out of date... instead of (617) 899 8445, it should be: (617) 410 6545. (The new number is my Google Voice number, so it should be right indefinitely). Everything else looks good to me.
Replying to [comment:19 spot]:
Thanks!
Updated your number, and checked the changes (and the built PDFs) into the git repo:
https://github.com/fedoradesign/flock2015booklet/commit/2aee3f5334b9d607905bca7938096b5027f8b717
Unless there are any objections, I'm going to ship the latest generated .pdf files from the git repo to the printer for an estimate and proof. I'll reply here with any pertinent details.
Super Thank You Ryan Lerch (and Spot and Ruth) for making this a priority over the past week or so :)
@ryanlerch @mizmo @spot
https://github.com/fedoradesign/flock2015booklet/pull/1
It looks like I was able to replicate the build/generation process and implement mizmo's fixes, but since I was missing two typefaces when I started (since fixed), I'm worried I may have missed other finer details...
Please give this one final look. Once the PR is merged, I will send the copy to folks at RIT to go the printers tomorrow morning. I'll check this thread one more time before I go to bed tonight.
Thanks, --RemyD.

Thanks heaps for writing the deps / requirements too -- hopefully my cobbled together build process didnt cause you too musch hassle
