Deadline for design to be sent to printer End of 2017
Deadline for items to be shipped and ready to hand out devconf.cz - 2018-01-25
Following the ticket #533 this would be a small business card size flyer, with a logo and fedoraloves.net on one side, and more info on the other:
fedoraloves.net
Get started at http://fedoraloves.net
[1]
dnf copr enable @dotnet-sig/dotnet dnf install dotnet
[2]
#fedora-dotnet on Freenode discord.gg/fedora
Any ideas or suggestions for improvement?
(Yes copr, because we are using prebuilt tools to build the packages, and this won't change anytime soon.)
@rhea do you have any copy for the card to contextualize what exactly fedoraloves.net is? You'll need a compelling pitch to get people to take action and visit the URL...

Hi @rhea! I would like to work on this ticket, but I'm not sure what you mean by the "fedoraloves.net label", which should be on the front side? Thanks.
@terezahl awesome! she may be referring to the fedoraloves.net design we did for the t-shirt, you can see it here - https://pagure.io/design/issue/533
@duffy thanks. But than I'm not sure what's the "fedoraloves.net logo", because I thought that's the #533 design. I didn't notice anything else there.
Yep, I'm not sure if it's not obsolete to have both the logo and the text as well "fedoraloves.net" or just the logo...
But than I'm not sure what's the "fedoraloves.net logo", because I thought that's the #533 design. I didn't notice anything else there.
Yep, that's it.
@rhea i don't think it'd be redundant to have text that says to visit fedoraloves.net, because ".NET" is a thing, so the logo might come off as "Fedora <3s .NET" like our "Fedora <3s Python" campaign and people might not realize it's a url until it's written out as such (does that make sense?)
True :)
Hi @rhea here are some ideas for the flyers. I created one with a darker and one with a lighter background. Please, let me know what you think.
Hi @terezahl !
I really like the darker design, I think because the lighter blue of the linework in the darker bg makes that lighter blue pop and it looks neat.
I think for the front of the flyer, I'd remove the fedora logo mark next to 'fedoraloves.net' - i would worry maybe about it confusing what the url is (eg is it ffedoraloves.net?) I'd maybe but the logo mark + logo type in the opposite corner so the fedora logo is present!
For the back - it's a bit hard to read the text over the diagonal lines - i think they are a good idea as a texture to pull in the design of the heart on the front to the back of the card, but maybe try a narrower strip?
Also, the text below - i think it looks like a heavier weight Montserrat - I'd go for a thinner weight Open Sans instead, Montserrat is really just for titling -
The relationship between the text blocks is a little unclear too so I think I'd play with positioning / elements to link together the text blocks that go together.
I think that probably these two blocks of text are steps in order:
And then the other side, looks like two forms of contact info: #fedora-dotnet on irc.freenode.net discord.gg/fedora <= i dont even know what this is? voice chat?
So I think those each also need a bit of introduction so it's clear what they are adn what you should do with them, e.g. one column like this:
Install .NET on Fedora now:
Connect with the Fedora .NET comunity:
IRC: #fedora-dotnet on irc.freenode.net Discord: discord.gg/fedora
@terezahl
Good job! I also like the darker one. I think the darker color makes the heart a little harder to see (compared to the light one) but it makes the text stand out more, which is probably more important for attracting people from a distance (like if these get push-pinned on a cork board or set up at a booth table).
And I also think it is hard to read the text that overlaps the striped lines. Maybe make the stripes only half as long and put them on each side?
And maybe shrink the mouse cursor just a little? Because it feels a little big to me right now.
Background should be transparent on both sides, always handled by the printer. And we're going with black on both sides, for consistency between stickers/tshirts...

@rhea Hi, can I ask you what do you mean by transparent background? Thank you.
Zero Alpha, zero opacity, also an rgba(x,x,x,0) colour; where alpha notation is a floating point number between zero and one; where zero means fully transparent colour and one fully opaque colour.
@rhea so does it mean that you are going to print them on black paper? Or do you want the flyers to be white? Please elaborate.
@rhea we need some clarity on the vendor requirements here to move forward. do you mean that the printer is going to use black card stock, so the design should be created for use on a black background but the actual background should be cut from the file and be transparent instead?
Transparent background is universal and can be used anywhere and anytime, whether it's tomorrow or in 5 years. As a result i would like a file with layers that i can edit if something changes (e.g. dnf info)
dnf
It takes 3 seconds to open even a simple .png with transparent background and to make it black or any other colour. It takes 30 minutes to carefully cut it out of a .png to make it transparent out of opaque background, with questionable quality.
@rhea we shouldn't be using PNGs for print materials, we should be using vector files....
That was an example. Nothing more and nothing less than that.
@rhea but this ticket is for a flyer, right? so @terezhal will design a flyer with a black background? we provide sources for our designs and removing a background from a design is a one-click operation in inkscape if that ever needs to happen.
@rhea but this ticket is for a flyer, right?
Nope, the ticket is for a design of a flyer, not the flyer itself, I see difference there. You're not gonna print it for me, so I will have to deal with the designed graphics so it suits the printer... either way as you said, if we have the source it doesn't really matter whether it's transparent or black.
For the consistency yes, black would be best on the background, but i'm also not a graphical artist to really imagine it "irl" so I would appreciate your input if you think that blue would be better, or anything else.
@rhea sure, but thats what i meant this is the design queue after all
we may not print these but we deal w all sorts of vendors and as long as we have a clear spec we are usually able to produce print ready files the printers are happy with.
i would trust @terezahl on what color to use, she is very talented and has a good eye.
@rhea here are the flyers. I made one with the dark blue background as @duffy and @aslice seemed to like it better than the lighter one and also one with black background from both sides, if you want it to go with the t-shirt design.
You're the best, epic timing :D I wanted to get back to these and stickers and stuff tomorrow. I'll take a look at it and see about printing this week then, I'll let you know how that goes...
...nevermind i fixed the issue...
...nevermind i fixed the issue... @rhea just in case - we'll prep them for print for you, when the design is approved.
It's already printed and well on it's way to our office to arrive tomorrow, half a day late but better than never. Hopefully without any issues...
Awesome, closing the ticket then.
