#598 Flock Dresden 2018 Logo
Closed: Fixed Opened by duffy.

(See issue #597 for the main website banner design)

We need a logo design for Flock Dresden.

We discussed the history and landmarks of Dresden in the design team meeting yesterday. There was agreement that the story of the Dresden Frauenkirche was inspiring and we thought maybe it should be an element in the logo design.

(https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-design/2018-06-05/design-team.2018-06-05-17.56.html here are the full meeting minutes if you'd like to see the imagery and concepts we discussed.)

Previous Flock logo designs include:

Hello @duffy!
I would like to help out with designs for Flock. I explored the past year tickets and read the meeting logs. Here is my version for this year’s Flock :)
I will happy to work on the iterations based on feedback and the need. Excited to be working on this, please do let me know your inputs!

Hi @tanvi! I'm so glad you worked on this ticket. Your designs are beautiful! I have a few suggestions to iterate / push the idea more if you don't mind trying them out?

  • Can you try it with the Fedora color palette? The yellows in the church are probably fine but I would try to use Fedora blue and swap Fedora magenta for the red, see how it looks? The palette is at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo/UsageGuidelines

  • I like the broken line style around the outer edges and see how it coordinates with the central graphic. It's not a typical Fedora style though and I'd like to see how it looks with clean / unbroken lines. Can you try it?

  • We don't tend to use drop shadows, so I'd suggest just having the flock logo type in white or black or maybe having it in Fedora blue with a white or black outline?

  • The 'flock' logotype looks a little stretched / squashed. Do you need the SVG source for it? I'm happy to send it to you.

  • I would do the date / location lines in Montserrat rather than Comfortaa. We've been slowly switching over to using Montserrat more (we used it last year for Cape Cod, but used Comfortaa before that.)

  • I'd also swap the location and dates. I think the location is more important than the dates for this design, which is more of a commemorative thing for participants than a way for them to know the exact dates. You could even drop the dates if you felt it helped the design.

  • Maybe try to sketch in more buildings / sky line on either side of the church, for a bit more balance?

Just some ideas, let me know what you think!

Hello @duffy!
Thank you for your feedback on this, they all really do make sense. I tried them, let me know you feel about this iteration.
• Yes, it will be very nice if you can send/direct me to the source file of flock logotype. I picked it up from some previous year design iteration.
• I have kept a light background. If you have suggestions about that, I would like to know!
Thanks again, let me know what you think :)

hey @duffy! waiting for your feedback! any updates? :)

@tanvi great work! You can use Flock logo from this file https://pagure.io/Fedora-Badges/issue/raw/1b982a59cc855a7d64063233a4f39bef7b23d44921c6da24fa8164b3c450e047-flock17ATT4_ticket544.svg

I would also recommend to work a bit on the outline to make it more rounded and Fedora-like: in Inkscape go to Stroke style dialogue and change it to round cap and round join.

Hey @mleonova @duffy ! :D

I changed the Flock logo, let me know if this is alright!

Also, I changed the stroke styles to round cap and round join, though I feel they're only slightly visible. Should I do something else with them?

For the circle round outlines, it gives a feeling of a more closed logo but do they look a bit heavy? Let me know what you think about it! :)

Thanks for the feedback. Let me know what else we can do. Happy to help! :)

@tanvi great work! Can you please reupload the svg for the latest version - I can't seem to open the file attached.

This is done so I'm going to close it. @tanvi I've just sponsored and added you into the Fedora Design Team FAS group for your work on this ticket. Thank you and welcome to the Fedora Design Team! :)
