#66 Fedora Insight zikula skin
Closed: Invalid Opened by mchua.

We need a zikula skin for https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Insight.

The fedora-zikula repository contains a fedora-themed zikula skin design that may be useful as a starting point: http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/fedora-zikula

There is no existing design material for Fedora Insight (fonts, color scheme, logo, etc) so this may need to be split up into smaller tickets to create those materials first.

We would like to have this go live at Beta time (2009-10-06) which I think (but am not absolutely sure - what is the usual procedure for getting design stuff up on infra boxes?) means we need the design before the Beta freeze (2009-09-22).

Our timeline may be tighter than originally thought.

{{{
mchua: ...we need to come up with a decision on the itbegins: default fedora theme vs something else?
mchua: Yes, partly - it also ideally needs to be packaged before we puppetize I think
mchua: My experience says the timeline is too tight to be developing a fresh theme from scratch, but Fedora has surprised me in the past
itbegins: ok - and we'd need to get the design finished and packaged by next week, same as the rest of the functionality freezes?
mchua: That's probably more of a question for mmcgrath - we could theoretically deploy the theme the day before we launched (providing we acceept the risk of layout bugs). But if we want truly accurate load testing, we need the theme in place.
}}}

I don't have a good gauge on how much work this will be or much bandwidth design has for it; we may have to settle for default fedora theme + FI logo if mmcgrath doesn't give us the ok to get the theme package in past the freeze for everything else. Thoughts?

Ok, it's settled. We need to have the design developed, packaged, and deployed on publictest by September 21 (so it can be moved to staging on that date and load-tested for a week, and we can have a September 28 production launch). This means the design itself should be finished around September 15, to allow a few days for packaging and package review.

If we miss that, our next opportunity is October 7 (for an October 14 launch).

Also, zikula is the new postnuke, so postnuke design resources are good for zikula as well. http://code.zikula.org/core/wiki/CheatSheet is the cheatsheet of variables for css/html-ness.

Theme development has moved to a repository, http://svn.fedoraproject.org/svn/fedora-zikula-theme/; duffy, itbegins, affix, and mchua have access, please request to join the FAS group svnfedora-zikula-theme if you would like to help!

This ticket has a tracking ticket from Marketing at https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/ticket/27.

Updates on this thread: https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-marketing-list/2009-September/msg00067.html

Here's the stuff still needing to be resolved:

• Author names - I can't figure out how to get real human names :( not sure how. Also my method of linking to the author's profile is rather hacky.

• Feature story - I'd like to have one story displayed in full blinginess on the front page, it seems the news module has a way to do this but I can't figure out how to make it work (how do you assign 'today's feature' to an article?)

• EZComments packaging - we need someone to package this ASAP. Any takers?

What else is pending to me completed on this ticket now?

-Hiemanshu

I haven't seen the revised skin (is there a place it's been deployed?) but from the list above: EZComments has been packaged, and I will not be heartbroken if we don't have a "feature story". (And if we want to figure that out later, we can figure that out later.)

So we're left with "make sure each article displays the author's name, linked to his/her profile."

of which show author's name is done, now to contact itbegins to see if the linking to profile can be done.

You mean adding this part to template will work?

Hiemanshu, has this been answered for you?

Hi hiemanshu, I'm reassigning this ticket to you. Let me know how it's going.

I'm closing this since it's no longer relevant. Insight is now based on Drupal and I'm working on the theme. :)
