preupgrade is great for upgrading but it requires internet access. if you have access to a DVD you should be able to upgrade too. we need a ui design for an app to handle this.
wwoods: e.g., upgrading your system thru anaconda is SCARY wwoods: because there's a lot of knobs you can turn to destroy things wwoods: but preupgrade is only used for upgrading, so i think it's less scary in my opinion the generate-kickstart bits of preupgrade oughtta be on the DVD somewhere such that you can pop in the DVD and launch.. something wwoods: yeh! what might be nice is you pop in the dvd, and it asks if you want to install or upgrade, you pick upgrade and it works similar to preupgrade where u dont have to go thru anaconda's ui at all that's trivial if the first stage runs on the system you're trying to upgrade - we write a little note that says "HEY ANACONDA UPGRADE THIS ONE" IIRC that's really the only choice you need to make during upgrade probably there's three cases: 1) no Fedora installed anywhere we can see. skip upgrade screen. 2) exactly one Fedora install. Present "We're gonna upgrade this: ..." with a "No, I want to wipe and reinstall" button 3) More than one. Same as 2), but with a "which system do you wanna upgrade" dropdown. honestly it would be really, really simple to have a "Launch upgrade" helper app on the DVD so when you insert the DVD a nautilus window is gonna pop up and it'll have a bunch of things and one "Install Fedora" item etc. wouldn't be hard but alas I don't have much (any) time for preupgrade lately buuut if you can help with some proposed UI / workflow stuff I can get some tickets filed and roadmap it out and hopefully I can find people who do have time
one thing to consider, right now when you open up the install dvd you see this http://wwoods.fedorapeople.org/screenshots/DVD-root.png
would be good to move those gpg files to a subdir...
This is something I'd love to work on. Let me play with this for a few weeks and I should have some high-fidelity mockups available soon. @duffy: This ticket was created 2 years ago.. Are there any new updates/requirements I should know about specific to Fedora 15?
