Maybe this is known, expected, or documented even? But starting a Cosmic session from (F40) Workstation GDM loops for me (in a virt-manager vm). Just a Intel iGPU here, nothing fancy.
Sorry if this is a FAQ, would be nice to know though: maybe I have to use the cosmic-greeter?
(I can run cosmic-session from within a GNOME session though.)
I would be good to update the issues link at https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/ryanabx/cosmic-epoch/ too btw (it is still pointing to your archived github repo)
(Also same thing from Fedora KDE (kdm?) btw)
~~I've been getting this issue too -- it seems to be non-deterministic which sucks :/~~
~~I'll keep an eye on it, I haven't found a way to reliably reproduce it or reliably work around it~~
Edit: I see you're talking about virt-manager, my bad. Currently cosmic-comp lacks software rendering capability, so it won't work without hardware acceleration. Hopefully that will be fixed in the future (hopefully before the alpha releases, since people will of course be wanting to use it by then)
For the records: I can use a F40 workstation with cosmic desktop installed and choose the cosmic session on GDM, on a VM (virt-manager/qemu/KVM) without hardware acceleration. Just changed the video firmware from virtio to Bochs, like showed on the prints attached.
If someone using VirtualBox: you need to set to VBoxVGA your graphics adapter and disable hardware acceleration in Display settings to make run COSMIC DE.
VBoxVGA
Thanks, I got it to work with QXL and Bochs (from a Silverblue 40 install), after setting selinux to permissive (though I can't get back to enforcing ).
The upstream issue talks about greetd, is that running when I am using gdm - maybe only for the lockscreen?
