A quick example: BetaBlocker +1 (where the tracker name is one of BetaBlocker/FinalBlocker/BetaFE/FinalFE/0Day/PreviousRelease and the vote is one of +1/0/-1)

I'd love to give this +1 blocker, because games are very important for our users. But I have to admit we don't seem to have a good release criterion for this.

Agree: this is serious enough to actually block release, but without an applicable criterion it would be inappropriate to vote +1 here. Maybe FESCo could designate this a special blocker.

Providing a good support for displaying application content is a basic functionality of a DE. This also means that applications should be able to run in fullscreen mode if they have such a mode. This is a clear blocker to me.

I think we could add a new criterion that would cover this, honestly. Something sufficiently generic, but covering the common use cases. We currently don't have anything regarding even regular windows usage.

Let me try to fire up a first draft:

The desktop environment must work correctly when displaying common application content - that includes regular application windows, video output, games and possibly other common content. Regular operations like windows close/resize/maximize/minimize/fullscreen (when supported/applicable), windows switching, using windows on virtual workspaces, and similar common operations must behave as expected.

Note: A small number of misbehaving applications is not a violation of this criterion. The goal of this criterion is to ensure general functionality for different types of applications and their operations. An example of a violation would be e.g. if a significant number of QT applications couldn't be resized (but they should be), or if all Java applications failed to display any content.

Does something like this make sense to you? If it does, I'll send the proposal to the test list where we can discuss the details.

I'll go with the argument from @lruzicka, I think this is basic functionality of a DE.

FinalBlocker +1

I'm content with accepting this under the basic functionality of a DE argument. That said, adding an explicit criterion isn't a bad idea. I think Kamil's proposal is good enough to go to the list.

FinalBlocker +1

Seems like the spectrum of affected titles is broad enough for F38 to get PR backslash, should it be released without this fixed. (to add some rant, exclusive fullscreen should've died ages ago)

Criterion also seems okay!

We don't actually clearly have a "basic functionality" criterion for the DE. The wording is:

"Additionally, for Fedora Workstation on the x86_64 architecture, all applications installed by default which can be launched from the Activities menu must meet this requirement."

you can't launch the window manager from Activities, and it is not obviously an "application".

I like @kparal 's proposal here. I am fine with adding criteria for the window manager, but I don't think this can be a blocker unless we do that.

I like the criterion, but I think this should be a blocker anyway.

I proposed the new criterion here:
