We have the following criteria which are relevant: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_39_Final_Release_Criteria#Default_application_functionality https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_39_Final_Release_Criteria#Printing
Note that printing works in general (I used EOG to print the picture). Viewing images in Loupe (which is definitely a basic functionality) works as well. So the question is whether printing a picture is a basic functionality of an image viewer.
FinalBlocker -1
According to my comment in the bug report: FinalBlocker -1
Anyone cares to provide some justification to their votes? :-)
Edgar wrote in bugzilla:
This is a new package, introduced in Fedora 39, and there are other image viewer which doesn't crash?
None of the other image viewers are preinstalled in Workstation (which is what matters for the Default app functionality criterion).
So if you wanted to print a picture from a default Workstation, you'd have to be creative. Probably the only option is to open it in Firefox and print it from there.
Additionally, I found out that printing in Loupe is broken even more, see my comments under https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/loupe/-/issues/237
Well it's really bad if you want to print a photo, but I'm expecting only a very small percentage of users do this, so probably shouldn't block Fedora 39 from being released.
My use case is printing coloring pictures for my kids. Essential! ;-)
@catanzaro Would it make sense to switch back Loupe for EOG by default until it's resolved? Should I propose it in the Workstation WG tracker?
I think it's reasonable to switch back to eog until printing works. Sure.
I tend to agree that on the whole probably not that many people print pictures from the image viewer. I base this opinion on absolutely no evidence at all!
-1 FinalBlocker +1 FinalFreezeException
that's in case we do want to switch back and don't manage to do so before the final freeze.

I created a Workstation WG ticket here: https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/issue/397
I think the fix is there already, I did not have a chance to test the crash, but printing to file works with Loupe now, which could be a nice workaround.
