Unless there are some other apps affected by this, Thunderbird alone can't block a release.
In the upstream issue, also hexchat is mentioned as a trigger. But for the moment, this doesn't seem to be serious enough for Beta, and we have no reports of the default apps being affected.
But we should track this and propose as Final, if we see more crash reports related to more apps.
I have also proposed a similar one for final.

FWIW, it seems that exiting several games also causes the entire gnome-session to crash taking all other apps with it. see:

I'm not 100% sure these have the same root cause, but that does seem likely.
Because this crash is specific to X11, which is not used by default.

That's definitely not the case. I reproduced the crash using Thunderbird on Wayland.
