This affects firewall-config (a preloaded GTK3 app on Fedora KDE).
I'm sorry, the only apps that need to work in Beta are the web browser and terminal: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Basic_Release_Criteria#Post-install_requirements https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_42_Beta_Release_Criteria#Post-install_requirements
If you can't show this problem with one of those, it's a clear non-blocker for Beta: BetaBlocker -1
For Final, we require these apps to work: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_42_Final_Release_Criteria#Default_application_functionality
If you can demonstrate the problem in one of those, please re-propose the bug, and we can vote on the Final blocker instead (otherwise it's not a Final blocker either).
I have checked on a fresh KDE installation with all available updates and I could not crash the application as described in the bug (bug updated). The only problem I could see was the incorrectly opening menu which immediately corrected itself when I moved the mouse to the right, so the application remains pretty usable for me and therefore I do not think this would be a Beta blocking material.
BetaBlocker -1
I was able to reproduce this, but I don't think it classifies as beta blocker.
Firefox is a GTK 3 application that is affected if you have the menu bar enabled.
I can't reproduce it in Firefox in a VM (fully updated KDE without updates-testing). Does it perhaps only happen on bare metal?
I tried Firefox on bare metal and I can't reproduce it there either.
On the whole I'm inclined to -1 here, even if it's shown to affect Firefox, unless it really breaks it. The rationale for Beta is more or less "enough apps need to be working for you to look up problems and download fixes" - the web browser is for the "look up problems" bit. Even with this bug, it would be able to perform that function, it seems to me - the menu bar isn't really that useful, that often in Firefox (to the extent that it's hidden by default).
unless someone can convince me otherwise.
I wonder if it might have to do with GPU drivers? Both Steve and I reproduced on systems with AMD GPUs.
Ok I revisited this and while see the menu issue with firewall both Firewall and Firefox run normal. They do not not become unresponsive for me. All AMD hardware.

The proposed fix doesn't look huge.
Discussed during the 2025-03-10 blocker review meeting [1]:
!agreed 2349606 - Accepted as a Beta Freeze Exception - We would like to fix certain GTK apps misbehaving in KDE Plasma.
