Feels fixable without breaking too much else.

For more context, here is the "real" upstream issue: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/issues/3674

Similar issues may appear elsewhere in GNOME, though I haven't had a chance to go hunting. My first attempt at converting that printer window to GtkDropDown touched a lot more code than I had hoped, I haven't had a chance to see if I could make a less intrusive change.

I opened an MR upstream. I personally feel like the change is a little more intrusive than I would want to wave into final. If others feel differently you should know I appreciate your belief in me. :D

I wish I made it in time for beta...

I wonder if this is a basic functionality blocker.

It's pretty close to a basic functionality blocker in my mind, but the fact you can work around it with a mouse wheel or keyboard keeps me from pushing too hard.

Discussed during the 2022-03-28 blocker review meeting: [0]

The decision to classify this bug as a "RejectedFreezeException (Final)" was made as we'd sort of like to take this as it does affect printing from the Workstation live, but the fix looks like a bit too much major surgery to be comfortable during a freeze, and we suspect the practical impact is not too big as commonly-used sizes are likely to be near the top of the list.

It technically works, but not in a meaningful way for users.

What an odd situation. GTK 4 removes the scrolling behavior gnome-control-center relies on for its combo boxes. Since the UI is frozen for Gnome 42 and the only fix is changing the widget used, there's really nothing to do but carry a patch which would make our UI divergent from Gnome 42.

Is this settings dialog commonly used? I have never touched it, but I realize that may be my English speaking North American user privilege showing. I feel like the dialog is easy enough to navigate via standard keyboard mechanisms (TAB, arrow keys) that it's really only inconvenient, not blockery.

I would change my mind if we think a lot of people are changing their default paper size, or if keyboard navigation is somehow completely broken for other users.

I use a Czech version of Gnome and I have never needed to navigate through the media size box ever. This behaviour is ugly but I sort of understand your point. I am not sure how much difficult it is to maintain a Fedora patch until the widget can be changed properly in Gnome, but I tend to believe that it might only be a couple of weeks (or even days) after Fedora has been released. Am I wrong?

Therefore, I tend to be

This one is iffy, but I'm satisfied that printing cannot reasonably be said to work correctly if selecting the paper size is not possible.
