This only seems to affect Radeon cards using a "legacy" driver, according to the upstream issue. I assume that means prior to amdgpu kernel driver. Looking here, GCN 3 and later are safe, GCN 1 and GCN 2 can opt in to it on the kernel command line (in the worst case). Looking here, GCN 1 was still sold in 2017, but for the popular option cards, cards since 2016 are safe. I wonder if the crash happens always or sometimes, I'd guess always.

It would be nice if someone with such a card could verify whether our RCs are truly affected.

Oh, I just realized I have Radeon 270 in the basement, a GCN1 card. If this is deemed to be of high enough priority, I could dismantle my PC and swap the cards in there, in order to check (ideally with a koji build already ready, to also test the fix).

Also, let's remember that users of those affected cards should still be able to use 'safe graphics mode', even if we don't include the fix. It just requires some expertise to get rid of it, after install and update.

The decision to classify this bug as an "AcceptedFreezeException (Final)" was made as it will prevent Workstation booting correctly on legacy Radeon adapters and thus is definitely worth an FE. We note Ubuntu's experience that it has been reported multiple times for their new release.
